Deadline approaching for research award

25 April 2017

Any students who’ve conducted groundbreaking work into timber and its properties have until June 30th to get their entries in to this year’s TTJ award for Innovative University Timber Research.

Last year’s competition was a closely-fought affair with Ewan Macpherson, from Cambridge University''s engineering department, taking the award for his research into folded plate CLT roof structures, just ahead of James Morris from The University of West of England for his work into timber's hygroscopic behaviour.

TRADA, who joint sponsor the award, is passionate about inspiring the next generation of timber engineers – its University Engagement Programme continues to develop links between academia and industry – and last year’s entries were real evidence of students pushing the boundaries of knowledge and understanding of the versatility of timber.

The deadline for completed entry forms is Friday June 30th, 2017. The Innovative University Timber Research category is open to third-year undergraduate or postgraduate (Masters or PhD) students.

Industry sponsors have given on top of the main prize an extra £400 for the research winner and £200 for the research runner up as well as free TRADA membership for a year.

Winners will be unveiled at the prestigious TTJ Awards dinner, attended by all the major players in the industry.

If you are interested in entering the competition, or have any questions, please contact Jane Lomas on jlomas@trada.co.uk or 01494 569642 for an application form.
